My Favorite Girl Bands

My love of girl bands began way, way back in the mid-nineties when the Spice Girls exploded onto the scene. They were the first girl band I deeply, truly loved but definitely not the last. Here’s a comprehensive list of my favorite girl bands of all time, in no particular order.

Spice Girls

God, how I loved The Spice Girls. I’m not a big concert goer, never have been, but I was on the phone the second tickets went on sale for the Spice Girls’ World Tour Phoenix show. My poor parents had to take me and my sister to an outdoor theater in AUGUST (aka humid, sweaty hell) but it was amazing. I bought all their CDs, backpacks, notepads, pens, diaries, and books. I even went as Posh Spice for Halloween one year (she was my fave). I was so sad when they broke up. Girl power!

The Saturdays

My mom and my sister actually helped me discover this great girl group (which has since disbanded, sadly). When my family returned from a trip to the UK I couldn’t go on, they brought a Saturdays CD back for me, thinking I might like the music. I LOVED the music and proceeded to go online and order The Saturdays’ first CD, which ended up being super expensive because it shipped from England. I still listen to their songs all the time and can’t see myself stopping at any point in the future.

Girls Aloud

This is another girl group from the UK (sensing a theme here?) Alas, just like the Spice Girls and The Saturdays, they are also no more. But, again, I still listen to their songs a lot and enjoy all their albums.

All Saints

Yet another UK-based girl group. All Saints were never one of my favorite, favorite groups but they’ve had a couple songs that resonate with me. I still love I Know Where It’s At and Never Ever to this day.

Atomic Kitten

Another UK group, I know, I know. There’s not really much else to say about them except their music is great, and , of course, they’re not making music together anymore either. One thing worth noting is that they had quite a bit of drama as one of the original members, Kerry Katona, quit pretty much as soon as they hit the big time, and another girl came in to replace her.

B*Witched

Now we have an Irish girl group. B*Witched just appeared out of nowhere not long after The Spice Girls showed up and I was so happy to hear their peppy, poppy music. Unfortunately, like many other groups on this list, they’ve long since broken up.

Cimorelli

If you’ve never heard of Cimorelli, you’re missing out. They’re an American (finally, right?) group of six sisters. All of them have amazing voices and they write their own songs and do covers too. I’m always excited when I find out they have a new release. They’ve also done some Christmas songs that I put on repeat every year.

Destiny’s Child

Who didn’t love Destiny’s Child back in the day? They had a long hot streak of fantastic songs and though I didn’t love every single one, there are still a couple on my iTunes that I like hearing to bring back the ’90’s nostalgia.

Little Mix

A British girl group that’s still together? How is this possible? Of course, I probably just jinxed and it they’ll announce their break up tomorrow. Little Mix leans a little more on the R&B side than pop, but I’ve loved all the songs they release and can’t wait to hear more from them.

So there you have it, my favorite girl bands. If you haven’t heard of any of them, I implore you to head to YouTube and check out their songs!
